About Stephen Coleman
Dr Coleman is one of the leading laser eye Surgeons performing over 18,000 vision correction procedures. He has been performing personalised Wavefront CustomVue LASIK since May 2002 as part of a six centre FDA clinical trial. He was instrumental in gaining FDA approval for this technology in May 2003.
He performed the first FDA approved laser vision correction in Albuquerque, New Mexico in June 1996. The patient, Beth Wagoner of Albuquerque, has 20|20 vision in each eye today. Dr Coleman received his medical degree in 1986 from Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington DC.
He has completed advanced specialised training in surgery of the eye at St. Vincent's Hospital and Medical Center in New York City, the primary teaching institution for New York Medical College.
Dr Coleman is among a handful of eye surgeons in the United States selected to teach the FDA certification course to other Doctors on the use of the VISC laser system.
While serving four years as a Flight Surgeon in Europe, he was the recipient of a total of seven prestigious honours, including the Bronze Star and Air Medal. His international volunteer efforts delivering medical care have taken him to such diverse destinations as Thailand and Cambodia. During his most recent expedition he spent six weeks performing cataract and refractive eye surgery in India at the world's largest non-profit eye institution, the Aravind Eye Hospital.
