Irish Life Health customers are entitled to 15% discount on laser eye surgery with Optical Express. The cost of your treatment will depend on your suitability and what treatment option is right for you.
Members of Laya Healthcare are entitled to a 15% discount on laser eye surgery with Optical Express. You can claim this directly from the Office of Revenue Commissioners.
VHI Healthcare members are entitled to a 15% discount on laser eye surgery with Optical Express.
Forms and Aftercare
The Med 1 form is no longer available to claim healthcare expenses and must be completed through your tax return form.You can claim for health expenses depending on your eligibility using online services, available at the Irish Revenue site.
If you are posted in the UK for work, the UK and Ireland are currently working to agreed continued reciprocal healthcare arrangements. However, you may want to consider taking out private healthcare insurance. The NHS website details your options including expected costs in Ireland.
Those who hold a valid full medical car (not including a GP visit card) and those with a Health Amendment Act Card are entitled to an eye examination once every two years, or more often if a clinical or medical reason requires this. Elective surgery such as laser eye surgery is not covered by this card.
There is also an allowance available towards the cost of new glasses.
Those who qualify for Pay Related Social Insurance (PRSI) entitlement will benefit from a free eye test and the new glasses allowance.

If you have recently undergone laser eye treatment, you may be entitled to claim tax back on the procedure. This applies even if the treatment wasn't carried out in Ireland as it is classed as a general medical expense, one of the allowances granted when calculating your personal tax abilities.
Your are entitled to claim up to 20% tax back on medical expenses incurred over the past four years, if you have not already claimed an expenses refund through another means e.g. medical insurance.
