We’re always happy to consider charity requests, especially those with connections to eye health, so when the father of a nine year old budding Bear Grylls got in touch appealing for help with a very sandy escapade to aid Guide Dogs for the Blind, we were delighted to get involved.
Freddie Cannell is just nine years old and in March 2015, Freddie will trek 100km across the Moroccan Sahara Desert in four days alongside his equally intrepid parents, Matt and Lynne accompanied by some camels and local guides.
The Warwickshire based family are great supporters of this charity already, having looked after nine different guide dogs during their training period, including their current student, Golden Retriever, Foyle. They hope to raise a minimum of €5000 from the trek for this very worthy charity.
As the main sponsor, we will be supplying Freddie and his family with some essential kit for their gruelling expedition, including performance outerwear as well as laser eye surgery for his dad, Matt.
Their brave challenge has already attracted a great deal of attention, with Freddie appearing alongside Foyle on the front cover of his local newspaper, doing radio interviews and they have an active Facebook page (www.facebook.com/freddiestrek).
There will be lots more to come on this brilliant story, but for now, Freddie would appreciate your help with an upcoming fundraiser.
A dinner and auction is planned in Warwick on the 11th of October which has been supported by many local businesses and there will be some fantastic lots on offer including a couple of original artworks worth over €4000.
For any of you living in Warwickshire who would like to attend, tickets can be bought here – www.etickets.to/buy/?e=11694.
