As part of our continued commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility, Optical Express has donated a prize to Cannonball Kids Cancer Charity, for an auction at a fundraiser Golf Day that took place recently.
The charity event took place on Monday 27th August at Dundonald Links in Troon, Ayrshire. Teeing off to a shotgun start, 72 amateur golfers experienced the sprawling greens of one of Scotland’s most beautiful courses.
Cannonball Kids’ cancer Foundation was founded in 2014 with the mission to fund innovative, accessible research for children fighting cancer to provide better treatments and quality of life, and educate for change. Founders Melissa and Michael Wiggins’ son Cannon was just 18 months old when he was diagnosed with neuroblastoma. Cannon was treated with adult chemotherapy which was gruelling and left him with side effects, not from cancer but from the treatment. The CKc Foundation was set up to fund new and innovative ways to research and treat childhood cancers.
Following the round of golf, a hugely successful auction took place in which Optical Express were delighted to donate a night at the sell-out Kevin Bridges show at the SSE Hydro venue, in a VIP box. The auction raised over £20,000 for the charity and means that two children with cancer can now participate in clinical trials for new treatment.
